On the move

Since it's 2011 now and my portfolio is up to a point where I'm fairly happy with it, I thought it was time to work a bit on my promotion. I felt there wasn't a strong line throughout it, mostly because I've been painting under the pseudonym Boco, but my blog and site were still referring to my official name, so that was a bit confusing. Because I'm going to focus on painting for clients and companies this year, I decided to work under the name Boco since I already did most of my paintings under that name, and I find it's a name that's easy to remember.

I hope my few followers will understand and follow me to my new blog and site:

The General

This is my entry for the Dominance War V mini-contest. The idea was to create some sort of massive abomination made out of corpses that fell under the devastating blows of the general's hammer and flail. Included is a WIP-sheet on which you can follow the steps I took to create it.

For the war I joined up with the 3DTotal team, not because it's the better community of the teams (which of course doesn't mean they have a bad community, but I'm sure the other sites have good communities too), but because I have a lot to thank them for. It was the first site on which I read CG-tutorials, and they've still got me hooked on 'em. I felt I needed to give something in return and thank them for helping me get to where I am now.

Forest Roamer

The Forest Roamers are blunt beasts with little to no intelligence. They have no sight nor can they smell, but their exeptional ears are capable of hearing the littlest sound. On top of that, the Forest Roamers are heaps of brute force. Because of the lack of intelligence, no one has been able to domesticate them and put their powers to good use. People simply try to avoid them.

Anatomy

A few sketches. Nothing more to say really.

Swamp Thing

My entry for the 'Monster Love' challenge over at It's Art. I wanted to portray a fairy tale like love affair between a huge swamp creature (hence the title) and a young girl, but I didn't want to go for the obvious kiss-kiss-hearts-and-little-candy-bears. I wanted more of a Big Daddy / Little Sister kind of love affair and I think that's in there. Somewhere.

Estimated work time, about 30 hours.

Shantak

Shantak:

They were not any birds or bats known elsewhere on earth or in dreamland, for they were larger than elephants and had heads like a horse's. Carter knew that they must be the shantak-birds of ill rumour, and wondered no more what evil guardians and nameless sentinels made men avoid the boreal rock desert.

—H. P. Lovecraft, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

Estimated work time, about 30 hours.

Last Frontier

'Last Frontier' shows a city, build on the ridges of a canyon near the earth's core. Due to the dropping of the temperatures on the surface, it's one of the last inhabitable places on the planet. It's a safe haven for all who can pay to live in it.

Estimated work time, about 20 hours.

Eye In The Sky

'Eye In The Sky' depicts a scout on the hills of a vast unexplored land, using his trusted falcon to warn him for the dangers ahead. It took almost 60 hours to complete, but as usual the trip was more than worth the effort.

Easy Rider / The Mist

I've entered an illustration-competition over at 3Dtotal.com, called movie mash-up. The idea is to combine elements from two different movies into one illustration. It took over 30 hours to make it, and included is a WIP-sheet on which you have an overview of the progress, the color scheme, the custom brushes I used to build it, and a histogram.
